Materials Planner – Solihull

About the role

The Materials Planner has the responsibility of being familiar with the client’s contract details, objectives, key performance metrics, opportunity identification and program pipeline implementation. Programs include sourcing strategies for current and future projects and working with several projects in tandem.

The role will be working very closely with Operations and the Global Procurement Management Teams to deliver each individual project on time and in line with project timing scope. The Materials Planner is a proactive delivery role and requires a relevant mindset in delivery of such activities to drive benefits and efficiencies for the client and for RS Integrated Supply in terms of processing and communications deliveries.

Your responsibilities will be to analyse client data to ensure spend is being driven to the correct supplier & category to secure the appropriate solutions to the customer in terms of  lead-time availability, price & savings opportunity. Taking an active lead in managing internally and with the customer, to visualise progress and mitigate identified risk through regular (daily/weekly/monthly) formal and informal customer reviews verbally and through reporting presentations.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule the supply of materials/components to meet production and project requirements, managing lead-time, in line with customer demand, activity identifying mitigation actions and preventative measures to ensure project effectiveness
• Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate processes for material delivery from supplier to point of delivery
• Work with key customer stakeholders to assess volume requirements against planning assumptions (safety stock levels)
• Implement all processes to agreed standards and targets and support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas of improvement
• Support inventory checks to validate inventory accuracy and monitor such levels against agreed target levels
• Communicate effectively and collaboratively across the peer group the activities and measurables
• Work collaboratively with the Stores Operations Managers, Client Service Manager, and strategic Partner Manager to ensure all service elements of client project or scope of work are achieved
• To act as an escalation and resolution point for the client for all relevant matters
• Ability to manage clients at Middle / Senior Level in relation to service performance and delivery, be comfortable and confident in presenting customer specific communication on all topics including corrective measures through escalation as required
• To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature and responsibilities of the job role

• Experience of delivering strong measurable results through project and service activities and the ability to influence through others to deliver these results
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build long term relationships with clients and stakeholders at site level with a self-awareness required to operate successfully at a senior level
• Ability to interpret reports into actions
• Resilient and robust – the intellect and strength of character to deal with a demanding leadership team and stakeholder group
• A technical background with familiarity of Maintenance, Repair and Operating Materials is recommended. A working knowledge of M.R.P., JIT, and related systems is desirable
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum day to day supervision
