Category Manager, Global Procurement

About the role

In alignment with the Global company strategy and ambition and in conjunction with the Global Procurement organization, the Category Manager plays a leading role in the development, stakeholder alignment and implementation of the Global / Regional category strategies for the assigned procurement categories.

Main purpose of the role is to:

o Lead and manage robust category strategy development, stakeholder alignment (internal and external) and strategy implementation of the assigned Global / Regional categories taking into account Global / Regional / Local market requirements and supply base offering. This will include, but not limited to, data collection, analytics, supplier selection and engagement, contract negotiation, contract implementation and supplier performance monitoring.

o   Deliver to RS Integrated Supply the best profit generation via subscription fee agreement.

o   Accountable to work closely with Sourcing Managers and Operation Teams to ensure client’s contractual commitments (savings, KPI delivery) are met. o Maintain the accuracy of the e-catalogue for the assigned categories by analysing content for accuracy and completeness using quality assurance tools.

o   Provide external market intelligence for the assigned categories to constantly assess the most suitable category strategy is in place.

o   Assess potential risk across the assigned categories, lead and manage risk mitigation plan where required.

o   Contribute to the company ESG and sustainable sourcing agenda.

o   Explore and assess potential synergies with RS Group for the assigned categories o Support other Category Managers in various category management activities as needed.

o   Deliver on other duties as per business requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Safety: Always follow all site safety and security procedures and attend required safety training.
  • Accountable to deliver as per aligned annual Global Procurement targets (non-exhaustive)
  • Subscription fee / rebate
  • Savings to client as per contractual commitment via supplier negotiation in line with category strategy, alternative product introduction, volume concentration, best-price evaluation (distributor vs manufacturer direct), etc.
  • Supplier performance via implementation and monitoring of Global supplier scorecard; ensure corrective action plan are in place to improve performance time over time
  • Relevant sourcing inputs and data analysis on new business opportunities in accordance with the required timelines.

To ensure success, the category manager is working in close collaboration with the Buyers, the Sourcing managers, the Operation Teams, Finance and Business Development.

Where applicable, the category manager is accountable for the recruitment, on-boarding, training, development and the performance of the direct reports.

Candidate requirements

  • Master degree (4-5 years) in Economics / Business / Science or other equivalent; MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years in strategic sourcing/category management. Three (3) years in sourcing MRO related materials or relevant categories is recommended.
  • Computer proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite. Strong skills in Excel / PowerPoint; ability to learn and work with MS Project.
  • A technical background with familiarity of Maintenance, Repair and Operating Materials is recommended. A working knowledge of M.R.P., JIT, and related systems is desirable.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimum day to day supervision.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance philosophies, practices, and techniques.

  • Ability to understand vendor contracts and consult with Legal Advisor.

Fluent in English written and spoken; another language might be required based on local business needs.
